I rebuilt the engine in this bike for better performance after it had been "dusted" by an improperly fitting K&N gravel screen. I used a Wiseco 11:1 compression piston (stock is 9:1) and a White Brothers power-up cam. The thing would pretty much keep up with my cousin's 2000 650R that had the larger factory intake and exhaust modifications done to it so I think it runs pretty well. The top end power is awesome compared to what it was stock. When I did all this engine work I didn't have a digital camera so I didn't get any pictures. I used to run a properly fitting K&N air filter but since have replaced it with a UNI foam unit for better filtration. I'm not happy with the K&N filters anymore. I ran one on my Dodge Cummins for a while and oil analysis showed a high silicon count (51 ppm) so I removed it and went with a large after market paper filter and the silicon numbers came right down. I also found some fine dirt in the XR intake so that pretty much tells the story. Premium fuel is needed to run in hot weather due to the increased compression to keep it from pinging. The Power-up cam has a higher lift profile as well as a longer duration for increased top end performance. Please feel free to contact me any time with your comments or questions. Engine Rebuild
